The minimum number of USB ports required depends upon the unit that you purchase and the peripherals that you want to add to your computer. Use the figure below to determine the minimum number of USB ports required for your system. As an example, if you purchased an M1 unit and need no other peripherals then you need zero USB ports. However, if you purchased an Insight Discovery M2 or M3 and wanted to add a Dual Inclinometer then the minimum would be two. Adding a USB mouse or USB printer raises the minimum to three while adding both raises the minimum to four.

Connecting you Insight Unit to your PC

How your unit connects to your PC is determined by which unit you own. As shown in the figure above, if you own an Insight Discovery M2 or M3 then you need a PC that has a USB connector. If you own an Insight 7000 or M1 then you will need a PC with an intergrated serial port.

Requirements for connecting older Insight Equipment

Older versions of the CLA insight equipment (specifically the Insight 7000 and Insight Millennium I) are connected to the computer using a standard serial port.  This section is intended to provide guidance as to how to connect this older equipment to computers.
